Do You Need A Visitation?

March 9th, 2010

PattonIf you have been saved any length of time, then you can identify with Job. What many new Christians fail to realize is that we are in a serious spiritual battle. Repenting and turning your life over to Christ is no guarantee of a life in a bed of roses!

The Christian Life Is NO BED OF ROSES!

The Christian Life Is NO BED OF ROSES!

As physical birth is the entry into physical life, so the salvation of a soul is the doorway of spiritual life. Rest assured, this new life in Christ is unsurpassed in wonder, but it is also difficult because of the warfare that will be waged!  Yes, we are on the winning side, but we need to stand true as good soldiers.

(Job 10:12) “Thou hast granted me life and favour, and thy visitation hath preserved my spirit.”  (KJV)

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

Recently, I came across a verse of scripture in Job chapter ten. I was awestruck by it and was truly strengthened by it’s ramifications. Job plainly states that it was a visitation of God that preserved him during his calamities.

Think about it… a visitation of God, that is what we need! Now, before you run off and say Brother Schank is a charismatic, let me explain what I am proposing. This visitation I am speaking of, for us, is not a vision of a 90 ft. Jesus or something. If you eat late at night then you will, more than likely, need a Daniel to interpret your dreams. No, I am speaking of just what I said, a visitation of God!

I don’t know about you, but I think I know something about a visitation. When I was saved on February 16, 1992, God, the Holy Ghost, certainly met with me. I did not see Him, but He was there! Have you ever been praying alone and the room you were in get crowded? You were the only one in the room physically, but you sensed you were not alone. This is not some aura, but a visitation of God.

There is no way you can dismiss this as a believer. The Bible states that God hears and answers prayer. The Apostle John spoke of manifestations. Consider:

(John 14:21) “He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.”  (KJV)

As a husband, I know that I must spend time with my sweetheart.

JESUS LOVE US!!!

JESUS LOVE US!!!

If we are to commune, then we must communicate with each other. God speaks to us through His

God Speaks To Us Through His WORD!

God Speaks To Us Through His WORD!

Word, and we to Him through prayer. God, the Holy Ghost, points us to Christ and comforts us day by day. He indwells every child of God and that is certainly grounds for a visitation possibility!

Today, get alone with your Lord and spend quality time with HIS WORD; your Bible. Lay prostrate before Him in your “closet” and pour your heart out. Working up the emotions is not a visitation, but when God shows up… you will know who He is!

Do you need a visitation? Remember, God is more excited about meeting with you than you realize!

Frequently Asked Question: Why Are You So Excited About Missions?

March 8th, 2010
We All Get Excited About Something!

We All Get Excited About Something!

People get excited about numerous things. Few, though, have their heart rate elevated when missions is the topic of conversation. In fact, lots of times I get puzzled looks when I speak about missions; even from God’s people.

I do not think I have ever been asked the question as I have termed it in the title of this post. However, I feel like I am asked that question, exactly how it is written, by “CODE” language and looks! Numerous times people say they appreciate my zeal for reaching the lost. Though a well meaning sentiment, it is usually accompanied by strange body language.

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

It is almost as if they think I am weird or something. It reminds me of how people give their opinion about a bad plate of food without actually saying it was bad! lol

I am excited about missions for several reasons. First, my Saviour loves missions. His heart beat is missions and I should love what He loves. Secondly, it is scriptural. The Bible is a missions book and we have numerous commands to share the gospel in the Word of God. Third, I was a mission field and someone got excited about me! Folks prayed, and preached. I was saved as a result of years worth of combined effort. I’d Christian Flagsay that is worth getting excited over. Lastly, it is a burning passion which was born within me when I had part in seeing my best friend saved years ago.

Each one of us get excited about something. For you it might be food, recipes, or your favorite restaurant. For someone else it might be a hobby or sport woven into their life as a child. I will make this very plain… If you are a born again child of God, then you should be excited about seeing someone saved and about God’s plan to reach them: MISSIONS!

The Law Of Sowing And Reaping Pt. 4

March 7th, 2010

There Are Fields Of Harvest Waiting To Be Reaped!

There Are Fields Of Harvest Waiting To Be Reaped!

Yes, we reap what we sow. If we sow evil, then we can expect the same. However, for the child of God we can reap rewards for our labors in the field of service.

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

This is an assurance for those who are saved to keep on living for Jesus and letting Him bless people through them. Just like a funnel, we should be a conduit for good works to all around us. This is a testimony of a changed life. Many will, no doubt, be in Heaven because someone did a seemingly minuscule thing which opened someone up for the gospel.

(Galatians 6:7-9) “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.“  (KJV)

Jesus made it clear that even the smallest of deeds will not go unrewarded. Sometimes we focus on things that are big and flamboyant. It is the small things that matter!

(Matthew 10:42) “And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.”  (KJV)

The Apostle Paul states that we should not get weary because we will reap! How wonderful a promise this is! In due season we will be compensated!

When we stand before the judgment seat of Christ we will give an account. Depending upon our motive and method, all of our time, talent and treasure will be accounted for. Hopefully, our works will stand the test of “Holy Fire” and we can lay crowns and rewards back at the KING’s feet! Won’t that be great?

(2 Corinthians 5:10) “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.”  (KJV)

HARVEST!!!

HARVEST!!!

Bottom line, child of God, don’t quit… don’t give up… do not stop serving Jesus! No matter how hard it is and how much harder it will become, just keep on keeping on! This is no time to turn back now! We are going to reap a harvest!

The Law Of Sowing And Reaping Pt. 3

March 6th, 2010
Reaping... What Will You Bail Up?

Reaping... What Will You Bail Up?

The Apostle Paul addresses this law in Galatians chapter six and reminds all of us about the two sides of this precept. In this post we will zoom in on the “negative” side of the picture. Consider:

(Galatians 6:7-9) “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”  (KJV)

We are reminded that if we sow wickedness, we shall reap the same!

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

I hate to say it, but our sins, if left unchecked, will find us out! Nobody likes this, but it is still true. No single individual is immune to this law.

We must be careful that we are not deceived by our old nature, or the world when it comes to choices in life. We face consequences, good and bad, as a result of our daily decisions. For some people, who display an arrogant, in your face attitude, there is God’s judgment to face. He will not be mocked! For those who yield themselves to the flesh in weakness there is judgment also. We have to be CAREFUL!

Friend, examine your life today! Please do not disregard this Bible principle, for it is with you wherever you roam. It is in your best interest to face up to the “negative” side of this law of sowing and reaping! Focusing on the “positive” side only is like putting your head in the sand. Yes, you do not see anything, but that does not change the facts.

I hesitate to use a political figure as an example of this, but a recent man comes to mind. I will not mention his name, but he had an affair with a member of his campaign staff. They had a child and now the issue has surfaced. Denying it all along made things worse. This situation has destroyed his political ambitions, wrecked his marriage, stigmatize an innocent child, and marred the reputation of, at least, two others persons involved. We will REAP!

Again, please understand that God is omniscient. He sees and and hears all. Nothing is hidden from His view, nor is anything beyond His grasp. He will see to it that we will reap what we sow! And… that is something you can bank on!

In the next post we will deal with the “positive” aspect of this law!

The Law Of Sowing And Reaping Pt. 2

March 5th, 2010
We Will Reap What We Sow!

We Will Reap What We Sow!

Jumping right into the thick of things, let us notice the fact that in proportion to how much one sows, he or she will reap.

(2 Corinthians 9:6) “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”  (KJV)

When will God’s people understand this truth? It does not take a

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

genius to discern that when someone sows good deeds, monies, time, and such into the work of God, they will get a return on their investment. Granted, many times we do not get immediate gratification on what we invest or sow, thus many get distraught and quit because we do not see something worthwhile in our finite opinions.

Many people abandon Godly service because of a bad experience and hurt feelings. How soon we forget that (1) we get to serve the Lord because we are saved, not to be saved, (2) we sometimes get rewarded in this life for what we have done, but (3) most of our rewards will meet us on the other side! Consider what Jesus said:

(Matthew 6:19-21) “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”  (KJV)

For those of us who are saved, it is really up to us as to how much we will get rewarded for service. If we are selfish with our time, talent, and treasure, then we will reap the consequences. However, if we decide to sacrifice it all and give it all we have, then we will be blessed as a result! The choice is ours!

What will you do about this great truth? Will you decide to give more of your time in your local church? Will you spend more time in preparation for service by prayer and Bible study? Remember: YOU CANNOT OUT GIVE GOD!

More in our next installment!

The Law Of Sowing And Reaping Pt. 1

March 4th, 2010

We Will REAP!!!

We Will REAP!!!

Often we find spiritual laws and truths mirrored in the physical realm. Jesus’ sermons and illustrations depict this very well. In Matthew chapter thirteen, for example,

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

He used the imagery of soil condition and composition to reveal how the human heart accepts or rejects the word of God. With this in mind let us examine the Bible precept of sowing and reaping.

(2 Corinthians 9:6) “But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”  (KJV)

This timeless principle has both a positive and negative aspect to it! Most of the time we find people majoring on the positive side and totally dismissing the negative. Whether we like to admit it or not, we still have to face both aspects of this great law of God. Let’s meditate on the verses above in a general way for now. In the next post we can get a little deeper.

There are many truths in the Bible hard to be understood, but this law is not one of them. We sow and we reap what we have sown. To the degree we sow, to the same degree, we have the potential to reap. We reap in kind what we sow. For example, you cannot sow apples and reap oranges. The plain truth of the matter is that we will sow and we will reap. It is just a matter of what you and I want to plant as to what we will harvest in return!

Think about this today. What you have done in the last 24 hours

What Have We Sown?

What Have We Sown?

is to be considered an investment of sown seed into the ground. What you have sown in the dirt will come up eventually! May this cut each of us to the quick until the next post. This open wound might just help us digest the thoughts of Scripture better…. UNTIL NEXT TIME!

Lifestyle?

March 3rd, 2010

ThinkingI get emails from Made For Success occasionally. While I do not endorse everything they may propagate,

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

I did find the following thoughts profound. Consider the following…

“One of the major reasons why we fail to find happiness or to create unique lifestyle is because we have not yet mastered the art of being.

While we are home our thoughts are still absorbed with solving the challenges we face at the office. And when we are at the office we find ourselves worrying about problems at home.

We go through the day without really listening to what others are saying to us. We may be hearing the words, but we aren’t absorbing the message.

As we go through the day we find ourselves focusing on past experiences or future possibilities. We are so involved in yesterday and tomorrow that we never even notice that today is slipping by.

We go through the day rather than getting something from the day. We are everywhere at any given moment in time except living in that moment in time.

Lifestyle is learning to be wherever you are. It is developing a unique focus on the current moment, and drawing from it all of the substance and wealth of experience and emotions that it has to offer. Lifestyle is taking time to watch a sunset. Lifestyle is listening to silence. Lifestyle is capturing each moment so that it becomes a new part of what we are and of what we are in the process of becoming. Lifestyle is not something we do; it is something we experience. And until we learn to be there, we will never master the art of living well.” —Jim Rohn

When was the last time you stopped to smell the roses, or feel the salt air of the ocean winds? Taking in the look of admiration from your children can do wonders for your stress level! We should not determine our quality of life in the possessions we enjoy, but in the God of whom we serve!

(Luke 12:15) “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”  (KJV)

How would you define your lifestyle?

What “Moves” You?

March 2nd, 2010
What Moves You?

What Moves You?

In our world today, we see a plethora of causes, campaigns, and

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

Andrew Schank - Church Planter to Blair, Nebraska

issues battling for first place in the minds and hearts of the public. Even to the casual observer, you can see what “moves” people. In the political arena, there are people called lobbyists. Their main function is to persuade lawmakers to champion their cause or concern. One could say they are “moved” by certain things, and are bent on getting others aboard their flagship!

This issue goes far beyond the political spectrum. Everybody is “moved” by something!  People are “moved” by strong emotions like anger, malice, bitterness, love, and passion, etc. Others are “moved” by their particular interest or hobby. You can see this by what their favorite sport is, or who their favorite ball player might be. While this might not seem too harmful, it sure can be driven to extremes.

At this writing, there are many grass roots organizations gathering momentum in the U. S. political arena. One is called the Tea Party. I will not state my opinion as to whether or not I agree with their cause, but I see a lesson to be learned. Many people, who never before spoke out about politics, are doing so now in a major way. Many of these are God fearing, born again Christians. My question is, “Why do they get so fired up about higher taxes, and such, and say very little about souls dying and going to a Devil’s Hell?”

(Matthew 9:36) “But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.”  (KJV)

Our priorities are unveiled before our peers when we display what “moves” us. Jesus Christ was “moved” over the spiritual condition of people. His love for mankind and obedience to His Father kept Him on the cross. He died that we could be free from sin. Jude tells us that those who have compassion make a difference. I believe Jesus made a difference, don’t you?

(Jude 1:22) “And of some have compassion, making a difference:”  (KJV)

My advice, for what it is worth, to all of my spiritual kinfolk is this: Be careful that you do not have the wrong priorities in what “moves” you. If you get more concerned about higher taxes, and tighter gun laws than you do about the souls of men, women, boys, and girls, then I would say you have crossed a line that you should not cross. I am not against rallying  to these causes, but I am deeply concerned that people come out of the woodwork about this, and never show up for church visitation, never pass out a gospel tract, and never witness to their neighbor about Jesus Christ!

Bottom line… let all of us who know Jesus Christ as our Saviour show more compassion and zeal for the salvation of sinners than we do about temporal, political situations. Though we may be “moved” by the political, let us be sure that our light shines brighter when we speak of the cause of our LORD! May it never be said that we were more interested in hobbies, sports, political action groups, and money, than we were about seeing someone “pass from death unto life”!

Reflecting Upon The Holiness Of God?

February 27th, 2010

In Psalm 97 you will encounter verse twelve at some point in your Bible reading.

Andrew Schank - Pastoral Church Planter

Andrew Schank - Pastoral Church Planter

It is thought provoking and very convicting! Consider:

(Psalms 97:12) “Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.”  (KJV)

I want to drawing special attention to the last portion. It says, “give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness”. We are told to #1 rejoice in the LORD, and #2 be thankful for the holiness of God… when we think about it. My question is, “HOW MUCH ARE WE THINKING ABOUT THE HOLINESS OF GOD?”

A preacher friend of mine has a knack for putting things into simple terms. We were talking about the holiness of God one time and he remarked about how God names Himself. For example, God did not name Himself, Happy Ghost or Exciting Spirit. Rather, He name Himself HOLY Ghost and HOLY Spirit! My friend was on to something. The truth is that God is Holy and we had better remember that. We had better be thinking about that!

For most of us, we muse upon truths of the Scripture far too many times in the context of how we benefit more than we do other passages! Consider how we get so excited about being forgiven. WE are forgiven. This concerns us! Or how about knowing that we have a Heavenly Father who hears and answers our prayers! I am not promoting the idea that we should contain our excitement and hold back our emotions when we uncover verses of Scripture that encourage us and help us. However, I am shining a light on the fact that we tend to embrace things from a, forgive me for saying it this way, selfish point of view.

HOLY BIBLE!

HOLY BIBLE!

Now before you take me the wrong way, stop and take a deep breath. How often do you get excited and feel tears start flowing about the fact that people around the world can have their sins forgiven? Probably less than you would like to admit. More than likely, you first think about what has happened to you in relation to that truth and then you may or may not get pumped about others! The same goes for our verse in question. How often do you think about the HOLINESS of God? Does it stir your heart?

Bottom line, we should be thankful for the holiness of God. It is an overriding characteristic of God’s nature, and if He were not holy, then nothing He did would be completely trustworthy! Take some time to think about God’s HOLINESS! Meditate upon it ramifications and be thankful! Just be THANKFUL for this great quality of God’s personality and character. Ponder about how it affects you!

Rejoice: The Gospel Will Prevail!

February 26th, 2010

CrossRecently I have been reminded by several individuals about a verse found in Revelation chapter five.

Pastoral Church Planter

Andrew Schank - Pastoral Church Planter

Though I have read it many times, I have been awestruck by it and its many ramifications. Within in the last few months of meetings I have attended, several of the pastors and numerous speakers have quoted or eluded to REVELATION 5:9. WOW!

(Revelation 5:9) “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;“  (KJV)

At the outset of this post I want to make it clear that this is a verse of encouragement on steroids! This statement serves to let every child of God know that the Gospel will PREVAIL!

Consider with me, for a moment, this new song. First of all, the subject is Jesus Christ. The POPE, Mohammad, Allah, Buddah, Confucius, Joseph Smith, Charles T. Russell, and Ellen G. White are not the recipients of this song’s praise. None of those characters are able to do what this stanza of praise describes.

Those who are redeemed are redeemed through the blood of Jesus, and not because of the sacraments, burning incense, jihad, filling the so-called 144,000, and so-on. It is through the precious blood of Jesus Christ, which He shed so abundantly when He died on the cross for our sins! Praise the Lord for His redeeming blood!

(1 Peter 1:18-19) “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”  (KJV)

Notice also that this verse of praise shows us that the Great Commission, as described in the first five books of the New Testament, will be effective and completed. It says “EVERY” kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation were represented. Yes… the unreached people groups of our day will and are being reached with the liberating message of Jesus Christ!

As we conclude this post, let me remind all of us that we still have a responsibility to this verse. Dear reader… are you saved? If not, then you need to repent and call upon God to save you from your sins. CLICK HERE for help on this matter. Next, each saved individual needs to do what they can to share the message of Jesus to a lost world around us. Just because we are assured that the Gospel will PREVAIL, does not give us a license to sit back and say nothing!

What are you gonna do?
